vintage swimsuitsI know, I know. I must be crazy to be writing about bathing suits when it’s snowing outside, but I can’t help it! Between fighting the flu and shivering from the cold, I’m so over this winter and I’m ready for it to be warm again. The second temps hit 70+ I will be on my rooftop pool with a good book and some sunscreen. I am an equal opportunist bathing suit wearer – I love bikinis and one-pieces equally but I do (shocker!) prefer swimsuits with a retro silhouette. So, in honor of the last few months of winter going quickly, here are the most iconic bathing suits of all time:

bettie page swimsuit

Bettie Page was the original pin-up and she solidified her sexuality with her risqué love for showing her skin. Leopard print, high-waisted, and a thick halter top proved that the swimsuits of yesterday were indeed gone.

ursula andress swimsuitUrsula Andress is single-handedly the most recognizable Bond girl in large part because of her iconic bikini, proving that women could be smart, sexy and tough all at the same time.

raquel welch swimsuit

Raquel Welch is the only woman in the world who could make a fur bikini look like the hottest fashion trend around. This iconic swimsuit hung on many dorm room and bedroom ceilings until…

farrah fawcett swimsuitFarrah Fawcett showed up with her mega-watt style, voluminous curls, and too-thin red one piece. More athletic and all-American than previous pin-ups, the ’70s made the girl-next-door fantasy everyone’s aspiration.

carrie fisher swimsuitCarrie Fisher took the fantasy to a galaxy far, far away with her space-age metal bikini, a far cry from her shapeless frocks from the first two Star Wars movies. The ’80s were definitely a time for trying new things, at least!
